Surfboards Made In Thailand
Is it wrong to buy surfboards and surf products made in thailand and china by noel whitman even prior to the closing of clark foam, the controversy over surfboards made in thailand and china was building as a threat to native board builders in australia and the u.s. which are the world leaders in surfboard production and design.. Lost boards are not made in china. i think the "placebo" brand was made in thailand though. firewires are mostly made in thailand, i think. the quality of boards made by people who don't surf is lower than the boards made by people who do surf.. 1) these surfboards are made with the cheapest (economical) materials available in planet earth. 2) if they were making a profit selling them to costco, and costco was making a profit selling them to us for $95, those boards probably cost somewhere around $30 to make in the aisa factory each (probably even less than $30)..
Imho thailand for a start is more politically stable, so that makes investment in manufacturing facilities a lot more viable. the other thing of course is that there is already expertise in thailand as they make tuflite and the global surf industries boards too.. Cobra group of companies (“cobra”) is one of the world's largest oem manufacturers of composite products. with it heritage in watersports, it has developed a strong reputation in the core markets of windsurfing, surfing, stand up paddle (sup), and kitesurfing.. They make firewires in thailand because its cheaper, and to undercut the price of having them made by australians. its common practise now across the board, despite most people, especially surfers with experience in asia, being fully aware of desperate foreign workers in a corrupt system being exploited..
