Pvc Canoe Outrigger Plans
My dad recently gave me his canoe and i plan on using it for camping and short excursions with the kiddos. the pvc arms, so the outrigger could be raised or lowered as the situation require. the rod holders were attached to the side of the hull, but i didn’t get a close inspection as to how. diy canoe stabilizer , outrigger. Homemade outriggers for 15 1/2 ft canoe. unknown. my plan is to use 2 6ft long 6 inch pvc pipes for the floats, with end caps that will be glued with pvc cement. no normal canoe needs outriggers, though i guess if you wish you had a jon boat but the canoe is what you ended up with, you might not be totally crazy to add them..
It does what i intended it to do, keep the canoe stable so that we can fish out of it. the only way the canoe will tip is if the pvc pipe breaks from too much pressure on them (which i think unlikely). i will only be using the pvc pipe outrigger system if we are fishing. if we just want to canoe, we will not go through the hassle of the system.. A canoe can be an unstable platform for fishing, diving or any activity that involves moving around, standing or getting into and out of the canoe in deep water. one easy solution, first invented by the polynesians for their sea canoes, is the outrigger, or canoe stabilizer.. The problem with using pvc pipe for a canvas canoe is that the joins make 'bumps' under the tarp if you use the moulded fastenings, or fall apart if you dont. also, when you pull the canvas tight, the pvc will bow inwards and make like ugly. whack a piece of pvc pipe against concrete and watch it shatter..
